THE NEW SUN INN

The New Sun Inn

Best Pub/Dining Experience At The New Sun Inn, we strive to use local, seasonal and organic produce in all of our freshly prepared food. All tastes can be accommodated, including vegan and coeliac diets.

The menu changes weekly to keep regular diners interested and the daily specials offer particularly good value. Rather than just the standard pub fayre, we offer a selection of authentic hot and cold tapas dishes, interesting cuts of meat, and the "old favourites" that our customers know and love.

Our Steak & Kidney Pudding has been a firm favourite for fifteen years, and our Malteser Cheesecake never fails to satisfy a sweet tooth. And, needless to say, we can easily adapt our dishes to suit the tastes and appetites of younger children.

Regular themed events

The New Sun Inn dining scene is enlivened by a variety of events throughout the year. We began "Themed Thursday" in 2011, at which diners pay £10 for two courses, or £12 to include a glass of wine. The menu has included "Posh Sausages" and "Surf & Turf", and the event has been popular with diners wishing to extend their weekend!

Our legendary "cabaret nights" are eagerly anticipated, and are always very successful. Customers enjoy a three course meal whilst enjoying quality tributes to Freddie Mercury, Elvis Presley and many more. The performer can move between our separate dining spaces to ensure everyone sees a great performance.

The Landlords Lunch

For diners seeking a more personal touch, we host the Landlords Lunch every five weeks. Thirty seats are arranged around a large dining table, the menu is a surprise, the atmosphere friendly and sociable the only downside is that you have to eat with the Landlord and Landlady! So far, there have only been compliments about the company and the food!

At The New Sun Inn we're extremely proud of both our cooking and our friendly staff. Ben, our pastry chef, is always experimenting with sweet treats to serve up in the restaurant, from melt-in-the-middle chocolate fondant to apple pie ice cream. Katie, our long-serving kitchen assistant, grows seasonal produce on her farm, including English asparagus and soft fruits.

Real Ales and much more

We're passionate about what's behind our bar, too. We offer three real ales: Eagle IPA, Bombardier and a regularly changing special. There's a wide range of lagers and ciders both bottled and on tap, and our wine list boasts over fifty listings. For a little more glitz, we offer pink cava and strawberries, mojitos, and a selection of quality spirits such as Tanqueray and single malts. We also offer a wide range of soft drinks, including fresh juices and blends, cordials, and all the favourite fizzy numbers, as well as crisps, nuts and home-pickled eggs.

At The New Sun Inn, diners can enjoy a touch of class in the restaurant or an airy seat in the conservatory, whilst drinkers and socialisers relish the variety of beverages in the busy bar. Our garden area offers full protection from the elements, and we'll serve food anywhere in the building. Our team of staff are always pleased to welcome people into the pub, whether they be ramblers, road trippers or regulars; there's a great atmosphere in the front lounge when all our comfy chairs are full and someone decides to jump on the piano.

Our door is always open - come and enjoy what we have to offer.

Wine House of the Year

We have maintained an outstanding selection of wines over the years at The New Sun Inn, with each bottle chosen by the landlady, Elaine Rogers. Elaine has a higher certificate from the WSET and has had an interest in wines for over 25 years. There are 50 wines on offer by the bottle, as well as 17 by the glass and a selection of dessert wines and fizz. There's something on our wine list for every occasion, from our great value house wines to our luxurious champagnes.

Dishes on our menu are paired with complementing wines, and we are always pleased to give an unsure customer a taster before they purchase. The pub generates additional business by offering a "Take Away" menu, which features all of the wines stocked at hugely discounted prices. This menu was inspired by the yearly "Bin Ends" sale, an event that is always popular with our customers. With the success of this scheme, Elaine expanded the wine advertisement beyond the bar.

The street-facing restaurant now boasts a window displaying featured wines, and the pub recently began stocking magnums, which are displayed behind the bar, and within the alcoves of the conservatory. When the pub was refurbished, we invested in a "Le Verre de Vin" wine preservation system to ensure a perfect glass every time, and redesigned the bar to showcase the wide range of wines on offer; the red wine racks had to span the full length of the bar to fit everything in!

Special events and evenings are always well-supported and enjoyed by the local community, and in 2011 we've brought more attention to our extensive wine list by incorporating them into our events. The "Carmenere and Curry Night" allowed us to put an innovative twist on what might be considered a "tired" pub special, and gave customers the chance to enjoy a wine they might not usually have chosen. Our annual wine tasting evening is a fantastic opportunity to sample some of our lesser known wines, which we carefully pair with our range of tapas. This event is always free of charge, and allows our customers to discover new tastes and learn about body and character in different wines from around the world.

In the winter months, we're pleased to offer a warming mulled wine, and trade was boosted over the Christmas period by offering gift boxes of our popular "El Coto" range. We hope to expand this offer through more of our wines this Christmas. Whether you're in the mood for a warming shiraz, a light sauvignon blanc or pink cava and strawberries, The New Sun Inn has a glass for every taste.
