During an appearance on MSNBC on Saturday morning, Donald Trump’s psychologist niece fumed at media outlets that have been accused of “sane-washing” her uncle’s rambling speeches and answers to question to make it appear he was delivering a coherent message.
Speaking with host Ali Velshi and admitting she is suffering the effects of a bout with COVID, Trump claimed that the press covering for the former president and doing a disservice to the public and putting the country in danger.
Noting that she has previously written about “sane-washing” — a name given when journalists try and make Trump’s point for him when he goes into one of his tirades — she explained,
“The problem is that, it’s not simply that many media outlets think that they need to translate Donald. First of all they are not telling us that is what they are doing but they are just pretending that he said these understandable coherent things.”
“But much worse than that they are imbuing his meaningless statements with meaning that is not there,” she accused.
“Making him seem more serious and less delusional than he actually is, as you just pointed out.”
